JCSU Alumni To Gather At The 2012 HBCU ALUMNI MIXER
The 8th Annual HBCU Alumni Mixer will be held Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Fabulous Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA, 30308.
The Annual HBCU Mixer, the event which led to the formation of the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance, is one of the largest HBCU social events in the city of Atlanta. The event takes place each January during the weekend of the Honda Battle of the Bands which pits 10 of the finest HBCU College bands against one another at the Atlanta Georgia Dome. Beyond the social aspects, the HBCU Alumni Mixer serves many purposes, including:
Raise funds for the participating HBCU alumni chapters’ scholarship programs,
Increase public awareness about the existence and purpose of National HBCU alumni associations and chapters in the Atlanta area,
Support Executive Order 12320 implemented by President Reagan in 1981 which established the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities and set into motion a government-wide effort to strengthen the capacity of HBCUs to provide excellence in education,
Promote and contribute funds to support Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s Youth Program for Atlanta Public School high school students pursuing higher education,
Host a festive and exciting forum for social interaction and networking between members of various HBCU alumni chapters, and allow participating chapters to get a head start with recruitment activities for the year.
